images1 Word allows you to insert graphics directly into your document, and then allows you a high degree of control over how to format the text in relation to the graphic.

First, though, let's find a graphic image.  Select the Insert/Picture/ClipArt... menu option.

You can, of course, insert a picture from a file.  The difference is that Word supplies a library of clipart ready to use, but if you choose "From file..." Word ask you to select your own picture.  Pictures can be downloaded from the Internet and stored in a convenient directory, or created by hand, or whatever.  You need to be able to direct Word to where you´ve stored your pictures.

This will lead you to a dialog box which will display all the clipart images currently installed on your system.  If you have installed MS Publisher, for instance, you should have over 5 thousand of these images.

You may, of course, insert any graphic, including those you might have stored elsewhere on your system.  You do not have to choose the clipart images which ship with Word.

Once you've selected your image, click OK.  The image will be inserted into your document at the cursor.  Depending on which image you chose, you may find that it needs to be resized.  You can, of course, reposition the image also.

In the following example, we have resized and repositioned the image like this:

To change the image properties, right-click on the image, and select 'Format Picture' from the popup menu.

The following dialog box appears, from which you can select a variety of options, including the resizing and repositioning ones.  Probably the most useful of the settings you can edit is "Wrapping".  "Word wrap" is when text flows round a graphic - as you can see illustrated in the examples below.  As usual, you will need to experiment on your own to get a good feel of what each option does.
